What this is

Real outpatient work

We take students seriously. That means you're not here to watch from the corner and pretend that counts as training. You're here to learn how a real outpatient practice works, how we think through patient care, and how to stay clear when the presentation is messy.

Close supervision

Students work under close supervision. Every treatment decision is a team decision between the student and the supervising clinician. We want people who can listen, think, ask better questions, and handle honest feedback without folding in half.

Good fit

  • NP, PA, or medical studentsEspecially if you want hands-on psychiatry and men's health exposure.
  • Comfortable with direct feedbackWe teach clearly and expect you to be coachable.
  • Actually curiousThe best students are the ones who want to understand why, not just memorize steps.

Enough structure to learn. Enough real work to matter.

A useful rotation isn't a warm chair in the corner. It's supervised exposure to real outpatient psychiatry, real men's health questions, real documentation, and the part of clinical work school sometimes makes sound cleaner than it really is.

What you'll actually do

You'll observe visits, help organize the story, draft assessments when appropriate, think through differentials, and talk through treatment planning before anything reaches a patient chart. The goal is clinical judgment, not cosplay.

How supervision works

You don't practice independently here. A licensed clinician owns the care, reviews the plan, and stays responsible for every decision. You'll get direct feedback because vague encouragement doesn't teach much.

What we need before we say yes

Send your program, total hours, specialty requirements, timeline, state rules, supervisor paperwork, and a short intro video. We can't take everyone, so fit, schedule, and supervision capacity matter.

Learn the boundariesThis is also a rotation for learning boundaries. Outpatient psychiatry includes uncertainty, incomplete histories, medication tradeoffs, insurance friction, and people who don't fit neat textbook boxes. We'll help you slow down, name what you know, name what you don't know yet, and build a plan without pretending the messy parts aren't there.

See the real clinicYou'll also see how a small clinic handles privacy, portal messages, follow-up timing, and the boring administrative details that quietly decide whether care actually works. If that sounds useful instead of scary, you'll probably learn a lot here.

Confirm the requirementsBefore we confirm a spot, we'll usually want to know whether your school requires specific note types, direct patient-contact counts, telehealth limits, evaluation forms, onboarding documents, or a contract that needs review. The earlier we know that, the less everyone has to scramble later.

Show up readyThe rotation tends to work best when you can show up prepared, ask about what you don't understand, and take notes on what you'd have done differently after supervision. We're not looking for perfect. We're looking for someone who can stay curious, protect patient trust, and learn the parts of clinic life that don't show up in multiple-choice questions.

Apply

Send a short video intro

The boxes cover the logistics. This is the part where we get to know you a little.

Phone video's fine. We just want to get to know you a bit and see whether you'd fit the culture here.

No script. If you go blank

  • Where you grew up
  • How you ended up in healthcare
  • Jobs you've had before this
  • The kind of patients you want to work with
  • Why psych and not something easier
  • What you want to be good at by the end
